About the program

The new Double Degree Program in Law and Public Administration is an optimized combination of two undergraduate courses, enabling both to be completed in six years.

The coordinated provision of these two courses was planned together by Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Sao Paulo Law School and Sao Paulo School of Business Administration (EAESP), taking into account overlapping competencies, skills and content. The law and public administration courses interact with one another, but without losing sight of the specific features of each area.

Accordingly, the first eight (8) semesters of the double degree program are dedicated full-time to in-depth study of the foundations and principles of the two areas. During this period, students acquire knowledge and develop essential skills through subjects that use different methods and teaching dynamics, while also intensely experiencing other aspects of university life, such as engagement in student organizations, junior companies, vacation internships and study and research groups, among many other activities.

In the last four (4) semesters, the classes are concentrated in the morning, allowing the academic training to be complemented by internships and exchange programs run by the schools, enhancing readiness for professional practice.

Why choose this program?

In an increasingly competitive job market, an education in two strategic and complementary areas of knowledge is a very distinctive advantage for students. They can obtain two degrees in a shorter period of time and at a more affordable cost than if done separately.

The program brings together two of Brazil’s most respected law and business schools.

Research and knowledge

The FGV Sao Paulo Law School and EAESP together have more than 20 study and research centers, which generate hundreds of academic papers every year, making a link between applied research and practice as a source of knowledge.

Excellent teaching and attention paid to individuals

In the Double Degree Program in Law and Public Administration, students have access to teaching staff composed predominantly of full-time professors, ensuring a strong commitment to teaching and intellectual qualification.

Links between the two schools also allow individualized attention to students regarding monitoring of courses, access to extracurricular activities and preparation for the job market.

Student organizations

Students can take part in initiatives to boost their development outside the classroom. These extracurricular activities are opportunities for personal and professional growth, including projects for professionals who are starting out on their career.

Professional guidance

FGV’s schools are constantly concerned about the future professional careers of their students and graduates. We therefore have a state-of-the-art team to help them as they enter the job market.

This is done through the dissemination of selected internship vacancies at non-governmental organizations, law firms of all sizes, government organizations, financial institutions and other types of companies. In addition, the career centers at both schools carry out individual professional guidance strategies, including counseling sessions, resume reviews and mock interviews, and they offer a regular schedule of career-related events.

Double diploma and minor (EAESP)

Through an internal selection process, students can spend a few semesters in Italy or Argentina, at one of FGV EAESP’s partner institutions. In Italy, the course offers a double diploma with Luigi Bocconi University, allowing students to spend the last year of their undergraduate course there. At the end of the four-year course, they obtain a diploma in public administration from FGV and a diploma in international politics and government from Luigi Bocconi University.

Another option is to obtain a minor in international relations at Torcuato di Tella University in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In this program, students spend one semester studying topics related to international relations and politics in Latin America at this university. At the end of this period, they receive a specialized certificate in international relations, signed by both institutions.

Immersions

During the course, there are local, national and international immersions. In the local immersion, students spend a week in the field and propose a solution to a real problem at a public sector institution at municipal or state level. In the national immersion, students spend a week at a ministry in Brasilia, discussing the cycle of a specific public policy at national level. Finally, in the international immersion, called South-South Connection, students spend 20 days in a country in the Global South, analyzing its public policies and comparing them to those in Brazil, observing what we can learn from countries facing similar development challenges.

Opportunities

Work in the field of public administration, in a context of contemporary social challenges, involves governmental organizations but it also goes beyond them. Professionals in this area also work with non-governmental organizations, social enterprises, consulting firms, government relations and social responsibility at companies, public service concession-holders, international organizations, organizations dedicated to sustainability and business foundations, among other types of organizations.

The qualities of a well-prepared public sector manager, combined with a solid background in law, make graduates of the Double Degree Program in Law and Public Administration a rare and highly employable type of professional. Their education allows them to work in all careers that require a combination of legal and public management knowledge. Graduates of the program can work in areas such as regulation (encompassing different infrastructure sectors), human rights and public policy (occupying positions in the government, at public prosecutors’ offices, at public defender’s offices, in the judiciary or in the legislature). They may also be advisors to third sector organizations or social enterprises.

In order to increase the diversity of students, there is a non-refundable scholarship program that takes into account students’ personal and academic backgrounds, as well as their socioeconomic vulnerability. Up to two scholarships may be awarded, in line with students’ needs and available resources in the scholarship fund.

For more details about the scholarships offered for each course, see the public notice.
