About the program

The undergraduate law course is committed to training legal leaders capable of working to strengthen democracy and for the development of Brazil.

Curriculum Grade

Student's training is divided into two stages. The initial comprises the first five periods, when the student follows compulsory full-time subjects set by the Ministry of Education (MEC) and recommended by the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB). The second, which starts in the sixth period, is called the specialization cycle. At this stage, students are free to create their own curriculum with elective subjects, taking part-time courses in conjunction with an internship.

Partnerships and internships

Students benefit from exclusive agreements with public organizations, representative entities and international institutions, providing opportunities to intern in large companies and public bodies. In addition, students have access to exchange programs at institutions such as Harvard, Yale, Columbia, NYU, the Sorbonne, Coimbra, among others, in more than 20 countries.

ENEM (National High School Exam) and International Exams

As well as entrance exam results, FGV also assesses candidates based on ENEM scores provided by the Ministry of Education’s National Institute for Educational Research (INEP), and international exams such as Abitur, BAC and IB.

Why choose this program?

Created in 2002, the Rio de Janeiro Law School (FGV Direito Rio) was conceived with the challenge of transforming the teaching, production and application of Law in Brazil. Its main purpose is to contribute to the formation of leaders to think about Brazil in the long term and, therefore, it is constantly committed to innovation.

A benchmark in teaching and research in law, the school aims to provide academic and executive training for professionals to develop careers in the public and private sectors. The school is also a pioneer, having created the first Masters and Doctorate in Regulatory Law in the country. The school works on multiple fronts, such as undergraduate, graduate and executive education.

Field Project

Between the 1st and 5th periods students on the FGV undergraduate law course carry out mandatory practical activities called Field Projects. In order to connect theory to practice, legal challenges on various topics are set and then conceptual models learned in class are applied in search of solutions and the development of resolutions that impact the legal and social reality of investigation.

Monitored Vacation Activity

FGV Direito Rio has exclusive agreements to introduce students to the legal practice and professional culture of large companies, law firms and public bodies. This program takes place during the academic recess months (January and July) and lasts for four weeks.

FGV DIREITO RIO Mentorship Program

The academic mentoring program promotes closer ties between students, or between students and academics with greater experience or with professionals who work exclusively in the labor market. The building of a relationship based on discourse and guidance aims to exchange experiences and jointly plan activities to promote careers, academic and professional advancement and increase the self-confidence and satisfaction of the mentored student.

Internationalization

The Rio de Janeiro Law School offers exchange programs for students and professors with more than 60 renowned international universities, such as Harvard Law School, Yale Law School, Columbia Law School, NYU School of Law, the Sorbonne, Science Po Paris and China University Political Science and Law. It also hosts international professors who teach courses in English as well as students from partner universities, who take courses alongside FGV students.

Double Graduation and Complementary Training

The job market is looking for professionals who have interdisciplinary knowledge. With this in mind, FGV Direito Rio established partnerships with the Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (FGV EBAPE), the School of Applied Mathematics (FGV EMAp) and the School of Social Sciences (FGV CPDOC) for a double degree, without the need of a new entrance exam. The great advantage is that students who pass the internal selection process will be able to graduate from two faculties (Law and Administration, Law and Applied Mathematics, Law and Data Sciences or Law and Social Sciences), in a shorter period than if they did both sequentially. Students who wish to acquire knowledge and skills from other areas, without graduating in two courses, can receive Certificates of Complementary Training in the areas of Data Sciences, Social Sciences, Economics, Applied Mathematics and International Relations (similar to a minor). In this case, students must complete a minimum number of credits in subjects offered by other FGV schools.

I would like to thank FGV for having reinvented their teaching in just one week, it really surprised me, I thought it would take longer. In one week we had everything ready, the platform was available, we didn’t stop.

I was attracted to FGV by accounts of its academic excellence, international profile and position in the market. I found an environment that lived up to all my expectations. Its quality has been continuously attested by national and international indexes and rankings. More importantly, it is an international institution, showing students that Brazilian education is on a par with the world’s leading universities, and equipping them with tools to fulfill the school’s ultimate and pioneering goal – to think seriously about Brazil.
