About the program

The undergraduate Law degree in Brazil is a five year course that qualifies the student to take the national Bar exam. FGV Rio de Janeiro Law School is committed to preparing legal leaders that are able to work towards promoting the strengthening and growth of the Brazilian democracy.

Curriculum

The undergraduate studies in law is divided in two 5 semester phases: one in which students attend a full-time mandatory course load regulated by the Ministry of Education (MEC) and recommended by the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) and a second, known as the specialization cycle, in which students have the freedom to decide on their own curriculum path.

Partnerships and internships

Students benefit from exclusive agreements with public organizations, representative organizations and international institutions, having the opportunity to intern in law offices, large corporations and Government agencies. Additionally, the students have the opportunity to apply for exchange programs at institutions such as Harvard, Yale, Columbia, NYU, Sorbonne, Sciences Po, Coimbra, Reinmin and others, in more than 20 countries.

National High School Exam (Enem)

In addition to their University Entrance Exam applicants, FGV also admits candidates based on their scores in the National High School Exam (ENEM), as reported by the Brazilian Education Ministry’s National Institute for Educational Studies and Research (INEP), as well as the results of international exams such as Abitur, BAC and IB.

Why choose this program?

The FGV Rio de Janeiro Law School was founded in 2002 with the challenge of transforming legal education, output and application in the country. Its overarching purpose is to contribute to the development of leaders to think about Brazil in the long term. Accordingly, it has a constant commitment to innovation.

A leader in legal teaching and research, the School provides academic and executive education to professionals from public and private sector careers. It is also a pioneer in its areas of activity, having created the first masters and doctorate in regulatory law in the country. The FGV Rio de Janeiro Law School works in multiple areas, including undergraduate, graduate and executive education courses.

Recognition

ENADE

Brazilian Bar Association

Double Degree and Complementary Education

The job market is looking for professionals with interdisciplinary knowledge. With this in mind, the FGV Rio de Janeiro Law School formed partnerships with FGV’s Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (FGV EBAPE), School of Applied Mathematics (FGV EMAp) and School of Social Sciences (FGV CPDOC) to offer a double degree program, without the need to take another university entrance exam. The main advantage is that students who pass an internal selection process can graduate with two degrees (law and administration, law and applied mathematics, or law and social sciences), in less time than if they were to study the courses successively. Students who wish to acquire a set of knowledge and skills in other areas, but without studying for two degrees, can receive complementary education certificates (similar to a minor) in the areas of social sciences, economics, applied mathematics and international relations. In this case, students must obtain a minimum number of credits in subjects offered by FGV’s other schools.

Summer/Winter Vacation Activity Program

The FGV Rio de Janeiro Law School has exclusive agreements to initiate students into legal practice and the professional culture of large companies, law firms and public sector organizations. The program takes place during academic breaks, in January and July, and it lasts four weeks.

Bernardo Andreiuolo Tagliabue

I was attracted to FGV by accounts of its academic excellence, international profile and position in the market. I found an environment that lived up to all my expectations. Its quality has been continuously attested by national and international indexes and rankings. More importantly, it is an international institution, showing students that Brazilian education is on a par with the world’s leading universities, and equipping them with tools to fulfill the school’s ultimate and pioneering goal – to think seriously about Brazil.

I would like to thank FGV for having reinvented their teaching in just one week, it really surprised me, I thought it would take longer. In one week we had everything ready, the platform was available, we didn’t stop.
